NYMC Public Health

Your support of scholarships in public health will help students pursuing degrees in biostatistics, environmental health science, epidemiology, behavioral sciences and health promotion and health policy and management.

NYMC’s Department of Public Health in the School of Health Sciences and Practice is dedicated to arming students with the knowledge and skills needed to develop, implement and monitor public health initiatives such as immunizations programs, infectious disease monitoring, cancer and asthma prevention, drinking water quality and injury prevention. Our graduates work in the public, non-profit and private sectors and span many disciplines. Their work includes designing educational programs and interventions, developing policies, administering services, conducting research, and regulating health systems.

NYMC’s Institute of Public Health houses the School’s centers of excellence – Center for Disaster Medicine, Center on Disability and Health, Center for Children’s Environmental Health, Center for Medical Outcomes Research and the Center for Long-Term Care. These centers focus on high-priority topics of concern to communities and the nation at large. They draw upon the expertise in our academic departments and other resources outside as well as inside of New York Medical College.

We collaborate with more than 30 community-based organizations and the health commissioners in more than eight nearby counties to regularly update workforce priorities and expectations, and engage in important local and regional initiatives to improve health status indicators throughout the region.

At NYMC, it is our goal to provide the highest quality experience in medical and healthcare education, beginning with the ability to help our students adequately finance their education, and in turn lessen their financial burden upon graduation.  Paying for medical and health sciences education is increasingly challenging, and the median debt levels for health sciences graduates has increased dramatically across the nation in recent years.  At NYMC, the number of students attending SHSP to study public health is also increasing each year, and more and more of these students are applying for financial aid than ever before.
